Getting Ready for Surf City Marathon

30 11 2009

I guess it has been a while since I’ve posted updates about running.  I signed up for the Surf City Marathon in Hungtington Beach which will be on February 7, 2010.  I also signed up for the lottery for the NYC ING Marathon for next November 2010.  This week begins my 9th week of training.  I’m following the Intermediate II training schedule on http://www.halhigdon.com.  This time, I’m supposed to have three 20 mile runs.  Yikes!  Over the Thanksgiving Holidays, I ran my 17 miles along the Santa Ana River Trail, and along Hungtington Beach.  It was a pretty good run.  The run took 2 hours 30 minutes.  I’ve been given an article and been told that I should start running smarter.  My long runs are for endurance and should be run at a MUCH slower pace…at least 2-3 minutes slower than race pace.  I’ve been trying to run slower on the long runs, but it’s hard!  With my shorter runs, I’ve been trying to do more hills and some sprints as well.  I’ve also started back up with some spin classes to mix it up a little.  Maybe a triathlon will be in the future!
